Coconut Climber





Yet another innovative one of it's kind coconut climbing robot was developed by our team. Being from kerala and learning mechanical engineering we were obsessed by the problem of lack of manual labour available for the coconut farmers. It is with this obsession that our team set on the project.


Our coconut climber was meant to be stable while climbing a coconut tree. We were adamant that it should be able to climb a coconut tree within reasonable time. It should be easy enough to be handled by a single person and easy to operate.Our model uses wheels fitted with motors to climb up. The battery is located on the ground so as to reduce weight to the maximum.There are 3 pairs of wheels that hold on to the tree using 3 pairs of high tension springs. A rail is used to guide the cutting arm around the palm tree to cut the fruit with greater access. A locking mechanism ensures that the frame can be opened and locked on to the tree.




The above diagram shows the  actual prototype developed by our team. The robot is controlled by a wired remote control.A circuit board is located on the robot which processes signals. For more details and renderings click here
